Complement fixation activities with rat tissue antigens of sera in hepatic diseases.

چکیده
Complement (C•Œ) fixation activity with use of rat tissue antigens was deter mined on sera in various diseases including hepatic diseases and malignant tumor. High C•Œ fixation activity was found in sera of various disease states, especially in the presence of rat liver homogenate. Patients with hepatic disease or malignant tumor showed higher activity than that in other diseases and in normal subjects. In the group of acute hepatitis, the majority of the activity was found in 19 S globulin and reduced considerably by preceding treatment of serum with C•Œ. Latex coated with hepatitis candidate viruses was agglutinated by these sera. In chronic hepatitis and hepatic cirrhosis, both 19 S and 7 S globulins displayed the activity. The activity existing in 7 S globulin was resistant to preceding treat ment with C•Œ and was reduced by absorption with specific anti-tissue serum. From these results, this activity was regarded as partly specific to immune reaction between serum and tissue antigens, although the accurate roles of these antibodies in the pathogenesis of chronic hepatitis and hepatic cirrhosis could not be clarified.

In the studies of complement fixation described in this paper, the antigens were prepared from (a) normal monkey red cells, (b) parasitized red cells of monkeys dying with Plasmodium knowlesi infection, (c) the spleens of monkeys dying with Plasmodium knowlesi infection; the sera came from (a) normal human beings, (b) patients with syphilis, (c) patients with paresis who were receiving malaria ...
متن کاملNegative complement-fixation tests with rheumatoid factor positive sera. A simple method for selective removal of rheumatoid factor.
Sera from patients with rheumatoid arthritis regularly contain inhibitors of complement fixation (CF) to antigen-antibody complexes (Heimer and Levin, 1965). Removal of rheumatoid factor (RF) by absorption of sera with heat-aggregated human y-globulin resulted in a higher number of positives and a rise in CF antibody titre against antigens from herpes simplex, mumps, and morbilli viruses (Stanf...

Arthritis was produced in rats by the intravenous injection of Mycoplasma arthritidis. Metabolic inhibiting antibody and indirect hemagglutinating antibody could not be detected in the sera of arthritic or convalescent animals. Nonmurine species of mycoplasma were capable of inducing metabolic inhibiting antibody in the rat. A hypothesis based upon the possible occurrence of heterogenetic antig...
متن کاملComplement Fixation in Diseased Tissues
An immunohistologic complement fixation test has been used in an effort to detect immune complexes in sections of kidney from rats injected with rabbit anti-rat kidney serum and in sections of biopsied kidneys from four humans with membranous glomerulonephritis. Sections of the rat and human kidneys were treated with fluorescein-conjugated anti-rabbit globulin or antihuman globulin respectively...
متن کاملThe use of new antigens in the complementfixation test for acute poliomyelitis.
Hitherto in poliomyelitis complement-fixation tests on human sera the antigenic material has usually been derived from tissue cultures of polio viruses. Despite high infectivity titres, antigens from this source are weak in capacity to fix complement (Selzer, 1958). Concentration of tissue culture antigens improves the complement-fixing power but frequently produces anti-complementary effects. ...
